Southern California to get some relief from the scorching heat

A welcomed relief from the extreme heat is on its way for the greater Los Angeles area, as an upper-level low moves into the region.

“We’re going to get some well-deserved cooling temperatures,” said KTLA’s Mark Kriski.

The National Weather Service reports a slight cooling trend will begin this weekend, bringing temperatures near to slightly below normal. Through the weekend, daytime highs will be in the mid-to-upper 80s and low 90s in the L.A. basin and Orange County, and in the mid-to-upper 90s in the valleys and Inland Empire.

The most significant change is expected next week, as an area of low pressure brings temperatures 6 to 12 degrees below normal. The marine layer is expected to extend into the valleys with a chance for drizzle.

Los Angeles temperatures are projected to fall to 80 degrees, and possibly even 77, by midweek. In Orange County’s inland areas, highs will drop from 87 to 81, and then to 79 by the middle of next week.

The San Fernando Valley will also see a notable drop from its highs of 99 degrees to the mid-80s next week.
