Police in Hot Springs said they were called to Central Avenue Wednesday night after receiving reports of a shooting. After arriving, officers said they found a man who had been shot lying in the road.
The victim was identified as 47-year-old Michael Mahan. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said 45-year-old Cristapher Zuetlau was detained. Detectives said they learned that an incident escalated between Mahan and Zuetlau while traveling on Central Avenue.
Investigators said the two came to a stop at Central Avenue and Corporate Terrace and began fighting, which is when authorities say Zuetlau shot Mahan.
Zuetlau is facing charges of first-degree murder, terroristic act, first-degree criminal mischief and discharging a firearm inside city limits. He was taken to the Garland County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
