Pleasant Hill teen dies while trapped in garage filled with carbon monoxide
Adeep Muthanna passed away Feb. 18, 2023, following the incident at Wood Creek Apartment Homes, according to family. They said Muthanna had come to the U.S. to work and help support his mother who lives in Yemen.
The family believes it was a tragedy that never should have happened.
According to the complaint filed by Harrison | Kristopher LLP, multiple tenants — including Adeep’s family — notified management several times about the garage’s faulty door. The door was reportedly “known to jam and trap people inside. Despite these repeated warnings, the hazard was never addressed.”
It is not yet clear why there was carbon monoxide in the garage.
The family alleges that no one from the apartment complex ownership offered condolences after the fatal incident.
“Adeep was a devoted son and a hard worker, with his entire life ahead of him,” said the family’s attorney Edi P. Kristopher. “This was not just an accident; it was a consequence of negligence. The apartment complex was aware of the danger and chose to ignore it. Now, a family is left with immeasurable loss and unanswered questions.”
