Northwest Louisiana YMCA pays tribute with 9/11 stair climb

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — The YMCA of Northwest Louisiana is paying tribute to the 2,977 who lost their lives 24 years ago on September 11.

For the eighth year, they are hosting an all-day commemorative stair climb.

Members and non-members are invited to help reach a goal of climbing 1,980 steps, the same number as were in the World Trade Center.

Eight stairmasters will be set up in the lobby and can be reserved for 25-minute time slots beginning at 5 a.m. on the morning of September 11.

Participants who donate at least $10 or climb 110 flights of stairs will receive a commemorative 9/11 pin. All proceeds will go to first responders in Shreveport-Bossier.

YMCA of Northwest Louisiana CEO Gary Lash said, “We believe part of our role is to serve as a conscience for our community. It is our responsibility to remind people daily of the importance of wellness, and it is our job to provide a place where the community can come
together for various important events. Our commemorative stair climb is one of the days of
the year when we fulfill our mission most fully.”
