The Bulldogs’ Deandre Rodriguez scored the Bulldogs only touchdown of the first half. He returned an interception for the score.
Wylie led 7-3 at the half.
Monterey came out and scored a touchdown on their first drive of the 2nd half to take the lead.
Wylie’s Julius Laine answered that touchdown with one of his own to give the Bulldogs a 14-10 advantage.
The Plainsmen scored the next 14 points. Quarterback Jonah Reed rushed for one of the scores and threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give Monterey a 24-14 lead.
Wylie was able to add another Laine touchdown in the final quarter, but the comeback was stopped when Monterey picked off a Jaden Karlskint pass with just over a minute to go.
Wylie falls to 1-1. They continue the season next week at home against Lubbock Coronado.
