Minor damage in Shenandoah kitchen fire, second call of the day

SHENANDOAH – Shenandoah firefighters have been on the move this week with three house fire calls, two coming in on Thursday.

The latest was a kitchen fire on North West Street just after 4:30pm.

Borough Police arrived first and were able to get a handle on the fire.

Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas told the Sentinel the fire was accidental and broke out when a stove was left unattended.

The stove and a burned microwave were both brought out of the house.

Examitas said no injuries were reported and fire was contained to the kitchen of one house.

Shenandoah Fire along with units from Frackville, Englewood, and Mahanoy City all responded.

The call was the second to come in Thursday.

About an hour earlier, the department was dispatched to an electrical fire in the Glover’s Hill section of town.

That call, in the 900 block of West Coal Street, was caused by a malfunctioning outlet in the kitchen and units were clear quickly.

Crews also handled a call Tuesday morning at Coal and Catherine streets.
