Superintendent Joe Alcorta is hoping to draw new students, particularly at the junior high and high school levels, by showcasing what the district can offer, from small class sizes and one-to-one technology to free breakfast and lunch, UIL competition, and even a four-day school week.
“We have high expectations for our kids, very high expectations, and we just want to provide the best education possible for our kids to succeed in the future,” Alcorta said. “We like to balance education with family, so we have a four-day school week.”
With just 14 students in junior high, Alcorta notes that the size of the district can actually open doors for student involvement.
“Our football team has seven kids, so they get worn out going both ways and so forth, like that,” Alcrota shared. “I know that at some of the other schools, there might be some children who want to play, but there are just too many, so they don’t get the playing time that they want. We have a lot of good opportunities, a lot of ways just to help the students grow and improve.”
For families outside the district, Lueders-Avoca runs bus routes from Lake Fort Phantom Hill and Stamford. Alcorta also encourages prospective students and parents to tour the school before making a decision.
“We’d love for any prospective student to come out and visit with us first, because we don’t want it to be just a flippant decision. We know that education for students is very, very important, and we want them to make a good decision coming out here,” Alcorta expressed. “We’d like to give tours of the facilities, visit with parents, and let them know the opportunities. We also have a little brochure that we’ve made up that actually we hand out to the folks that come in, just kind of lets them know the opportunities that are here and so forth.”
According to Alcorta, once families decide, enrollment paperwork can be processed in as little as 24 hours. Click here to visit the school’s website.
