In DC News Now’s DMV Download, hosts Kaitlyn Dillon and Makayla Jennings explore upcoming events and hidden gems across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.
In episode six, learn more about the Great Falls hiking trail, the Lumineer’s upcoming concert at Nationals Park, a new movie release, and events including:
16th annual DC State Fair
- Takes place Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Bryant Street NE.
- Features live music, demonstrations, educational workshops, and local vendors
- A celebration of the District’s agricultural, culinary, and artistic talents
- Free admission, but rides have individual ticket costs
- Metro accessible, parking may be limited
Silver Spring Jazz Festival
- Saturday, Sept. 6, from 3 to 10 p.m. at Veterans Plaza
- Activities include live music, food and art vendors, a beer garden, and family-friendly events
- Preservation Hall Jazz Band, nationally recognized for preserving traditional New Orleans jazz, will headline the event starting at 8:30 p.m.
- Free admission, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs
- Parking garages are available. The event is also located close to the Silver Spring Metro Station on the Red Line
George Washington Patriot Run
- Sunday, Sept. 7, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Mount Vernon Circle
- Races include a 5K and a 10-miler with the 5K starting at 7:30 a.m. and the 10-miler starting at 7:15 a.m.
- A finish festival will be held after the race, including music, beer for runners, and concessions
- 5K registration is $62.00, and 10-miler registration is $82.00
- Spectator tickets are $14 for adults, $8 for kids, and free admission for children under six
- $5 parking fee with a shuttle available at the West Parking Garage
