MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Machesney Park Police arrested Yvonne Strafford, 57, for allegedly calling Ralston Elementary School multiple times and leaving hateful messages on the school’s answering machine.

On February 25, around 9:37 a.m., officers received reports from the school’s assistant principal stating that one of their employees was receiving vulgar and racist messages from an unknown person.

The victim told authorities the suspect called multiple times.

One of the messages said, “white people smell like dogs,” among multiple profanities, officials reported.

After further investigation, deputies determined the phone number associated with the calls was Strafford’s.

Officers tracked down Strafford at her home in the 300 block of North Dearborn Avenue in Kankakee, Illinois.

Strafford was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Winnebago County Jail on September 4.

She is charged with a hate crime and was granted pretrial release on Thursday.
