Summer 2025 recap: Wet for most and sneaky hot

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Climatologically, the summer of 2025 is now in the books. With few weather worries expected in the ArkLaTex, I figured I’d focus today’s article on a look back at what we experienced in Shreveport & Texarkana.

Rainfall:  Most of the summer featured plenty of rainfall over most of the ArkLaTex.  In Shreveport, this summer ranks as the 12th wettest summer on record.  16.45 inches was recorded at the Shreveport Regional Airport.  The average summer rainfall in Shreveport is 11.49”. 

Temperatures:  Quite a few people have told me that this summer really hasn’t seemed to be to bad.  They might be surprised to learn that this summer ended up as the 7th hottest summer on record.  One reason for this ‘sneaky hot’ outcome is not necessarily the heat during the day, but the warmth that we experienced at night.  This summer’s average low temperature came in as the 5th warmest on record.  We did see plenty of daytime heat with 11 days of triple-digit heat.  The hottest temperature was recorded on August 18th at 104 degrees.   

Texarkana Summer:  This summer in Texarkana ranks as the 6th hottest on record.  Texarkana received a little over half of the rain that Shreveport received.  The 9.14” ranks as the 47th driest on record.  The drier conditions contributed to more heat.  There were 21 days of triple-digit heat in Texarkana. The hottest temperature of 106 was recorded on July 30th, August 18th, and August 19th. Those 21 days of triple digits rank as the 21st most.  The record is 50, set in the infamous summer of 2011.  Who’s ready for fall????
