Muncie man gets 36 years for throwing girlfriend in front of moving train
The Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that 25-year-old Di Morriea Turner received a 36-year sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction. On July 30, a jury found him guilty of attempted murder, aggravated battery and domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon.
According to previous reports, officers with the Muncie Police Department were called on June 19, 2019, to the 500 block of West 23rd Street to investigate a report that someone was struck by a train.
Officers reported at the time that they arrived on the scene and discovered Turner and his girlfriend near the railroad crossing.
As the investigation unfolded, police met and spoke with employees on the train who recalled observing Turner appear to hurl his girlfriend over his shoulder and into the direct path of the moving train.
When police questioned Turner, he reportedly told them that he and his girlfriend had been arguing that morning and that it spilled outside. He denied intentionally throwing her toward the train. Turner told police that he grabbed her because he didn’t want her to be on the other side of the train.
Online court records show Turner is also waiting to learn his fate in a separate case out of Delaware Circuit Court 4, where he faces dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death and other felony counts. A jury trial is scheduled to take place on Dec. 1.
In that case, a 2-year-old child reportedly found their mother dead after she overdosed on heroin.
