CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man has been charged for allegedly shooting at Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers late Tuesday night, officials say.

On Sept. 2, shortly after 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 8400 block of North Tryon Street.

When officers arrived, they found shell casings and heard additional shots being fired.

A witness on the scene described the suspect as officers continued to search the area.

Officials say they saw the suspect standing in the doorway of a Hampton Inn, and when officers approached, he allegedly pointed a firearm at them and discharged his weapon. According to court records, he fired at least one round at officers.

Officers gave verbal commands for him to stand down, to which the suspect dropped the firearm and complied with the officers’ orders.

According to court documents, the suspect, Lance Wade Graham, 36, told officers he was being chased by people who were hanging out with his ex-girlfriend. Multiple other people joined in, and he ran to the hotel for cover because they allegedly started shooting at him.

He stated he asked the hotel clerk to call the police and stated he saw two police cars go by and fired at the ground to let them know that “it was serious.”

Graham was arrested and charged with three counts of assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer. He was given a $150,000 secured bond.

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the incident.
