Just after 8 p.m. on Sept. 3, court documents show that the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) had been dispatched to Felt School Road in Corbin after getting reports of a domestic assault happening there.
According to court documents, while deputies were turning onto the road, they saw Stephen Rainwater, 36, who had allegedly been involved in the fight. He was driving away from the residence and was pulled over at the end of the road and smelled of alcohol.
Rainwater’s arrest citation shows that a 19-month-old child was in the car with him.
Rainwater told law enforcement that he and Hailee Padgett, 32, had been drinking before allegedly hitting each other. They had the toddler in their care while they were drunk and fighting, deputies alleged in court documents.
When deputies asked Rainwater how much he’d been drinking, he allegedly said he’d had way too much, per the sheriff’s office.
Child services were contacted by the LCSO due to the pair being arrested.
Rainwater was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense, driving on a DUI-suspended license, first offense, second-degree wanton endangerment, and fourth-degree assault-domestic violence with no visible injury. Padgett was charged with second-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault, domestic violence with no visible injury.
The pair was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center. Rainwater’s bond was set at $2,500, with Padgett’s set at $1,000. They’re each due in court at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
