CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Concord man will spend at least 25 years in prison after pleading guilty on Thursday to the 2024 murder of a woman and her unborn child, according to Mecklenburg County court documents.

Dasean Vaughntane Maddox appeared in a Mecklenburg County courtroom on Thursday, where he formally entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder, murder of an unborn child, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The charges stem from a deadly shooting that happened on November 13, 2024, in the University City area. Police responded to a 911 call along Strive Street, where they found Jameisha Wilkes, who had been shot. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Court documents reveal that Maddox shot Wilkes after admitting to a family member earlier that day that he had been unfaithful and gotten her pregnant. He also reportedly took her cellphone and destroyed it by running it over with his vehicle. Maddox was arrested shortly after the shooting. A search of his vehicle turned up a firearm and a damaged cellphone, records state.

As part of his sentencing, Maddox received a prison term ranging from 25 to 31 years. He has already been credited with 294 days served in jail while awaiting trial.

Maddox is currently in custody and will be transferred to a state prison.
