ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — One of three Chicago men thought to be involved in a Rockford shooting has pleaded guilty in exchange for a deferred jail sentence.

Rockford Police SCOPE officers pulled over a vehicle near Horace Avenue and Elm Street around 11:45 p.m. Sunday, July 20th, that police believed had been involved in a reckless discharge of a firearm earlier in the night in the 1800 block of West State Street.

According to officers, a loaded handgun with a laser/light attachment and a second loaded handgun with an extended magazine were found. Both weapons were reported stolen out of Louisville, Kentucky.

Douglas Vargas Pineda, 25, of Cicero, entered a negotiated plea in Winnebago County Court on Thursday to the charge of reckless discharge of a firearm. Additional charges, of possession of a stolen firearm and no valid Firearm Owner’s Identification, were dismissed.

Vargas Pineda was sentenced to 92 days in jail, with credit for 46 already served. He was released on a 30-month conditional discharge.
