CARENCRO, La. (
KLFY) — The City of Carencro has received five bids for the construction of a new $45 million wastewater treatment plant, with the lowest bid coming in at $42.7 million, and expects to break ground by the end of the year.
On Thursday, bids for the construction of Carencro’s estimated $45 million wastewater treatment plant were revealed. The city expects to break ground by the end of the year.
Former Carencro Mayor Glenn Brasseaux initiated funding for the project. Brasseaux’s administration secured a $2 million USDA grant and a voter-approved one percent sales tax.
For Carencro City administrators, the opening of bids for a new wastewater sewer plant reflects the city’s growth.
“The renovation we had was in 1999. It was updated to a 500-gallon-per-day system. We are over-capacity with the growth we had over the years in Carencro,” Carencro Water and Wastewater Superintendent Buster Broussard added.
The city received five bids from contractors to construct the plant. The bids range from $49.5 million to the lowest cost of $42.7 million. The mayor stated that the council will decide which price to accept.
“I’m excited actually to have a number. You know, I’m excited that we’re moving forward. I’m excited that it’s within an affordable range for us. It’s something that’s within the amount of money we had to spend,” Carencro Mayor Charlotte Clavier said.
The city anticipates an end-of-the-year construction start date with total project completion within two years. According to online work details, the project includes demolishing the existing structure after the new facility has operated for at least 30 days.
