Braun appoints members to Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Gov. Mike Braun recently appointed five members to the newly established commission that would explore the redrawing of state lines between Indiana and Illinois.

According to a recent news release from Braun’s office, the following individuals were named to the Indiana-Illinois Boundary Adjustment Commission:

  • Greg Newman, Kemper GPA group
    • Posey County resident whose term expires on June 30, 2029
  • Don Lehe, a former Republican member of the Indiana House of Representatives
      Sponsored
    • White County resident whose term expires on June 30, 2029
  • Clay Andrews, a sixth-generation Warren County farmer
    • Warren County resident whose term expires on June 30, 2029
  • Jeff Papa, state of Indiana representative
    • Boone County resident whose term expires on June 30, 2029
  • Ray McCammon, commissioner in Sullivan County
    • Sullivan County resident whose term expires on June 30, 2029

According to previous reports, Braun signed House Bill 1008 during the most recent legislative session that would establish the commission, which is aimed at exploring the “advantages” of redrawing state lines.

Indiana House Speaker Todd Huston, a Republican from Fishers, wrote the initial bill, stating at the time that the Hoosier state has a lot to offer, including being one of the top states for:

  • Low taxes
  • Business climate
  • Economic opportunity
  • Affordability

“If Illinois residents and counties are looking for something different, we’re simply raising our hands and saying, you’d be welcome in Indiana,” Huston said at the time.

For any progress to happen, Illinois lawmakers would have to pass a similar bill. According to previous reports, House Bill 1500, introduced on Jan. 21, would create the Illinois-Indiana Boundary Adjustment Commission Participation Act.

Since that Illinois bill was introduced and referred to the state’s rules committee in January, no movement has been made on House Bill 1500.

According to the release, Braun also announced several other appointments to state boards and commissions, including:
