Abilene property owner faces $63,000 fine for code violations
The complex, located at North 1st and Wall Street, has been on the radar of the city’s Board of Building Standards for years. Utilities have been shut off since 2019, and the structures were officially condemned in January 2024.
In July, the board ordered the owners to start making repairs. But according to city officials, no progress has been made. As a result, the property is now racking up penalties of $500 per day for one building and $250 per day each for the other two.
The board has the authority to order a property’s demolition if the owner refuses to comply, though no such order has been issued at this time. For now, the owners remain on the hook for mounting fines, already surpassing $63,000 and climbing daily.
