Climate and Environment news: WGN Weather Center blog

Tuesday was a second straight early September day with abundant sunshine that helped push the mercury into the lower 80s for the first time in the day 10 days dating back to August 23. It’s a remarkable stretch considering the normal high during that entire period has been in the low 80s. It’s a testament to how cool it’s been.
Tuesday’s 81 degree high made it 71 days officially for O’Hare at or above 80 degrees for 2025. That’s well behind the 81 days by September 2 one year ago. But it also shows there is plenty of time for it to still get warm. We had 21 additional days at or above 80 beyond this date a year ago.
Tuesday U.S. Highs/Departures from Normal
Highs were near to slightly above normal across the Great Lakes while the Pacific Northwest broiled in near triple digit highs in places such as Boise, ID and Spokane, WA, levels 15-25 degrees above normal.
