Number one is the backup quarterback battle after a preseason competition between Ethan Grunkemeyer and Jaxon Smolik. Grunkemeyer got the backup nod in week one and appeared late in the blowout victory, throwing for 86 yards and adding a rushing touchdown.
It remains to be seen whether Grunkemeyer held the backup job for another week.
The second storyline is the run game led by Nick Singleton, who had two touchdowns in the win to pass Lydell Mitchell for second all-time with 43 total touchdowns. While the focus in week one was on the passing game, there’ll be continued focus on how Singleton and Kaytron Allen take another step in week two.
Finally, the production off turnovers is something Penn State will want to continue this week. The Nittany Lions had 16 points off their three turnovers against Nevada, led by Dani Dennis-Sutton’s two forced fumbles.
The Nittany Lions will kick off week two at noon inside Beaver Stadium against the 1-0 Panthers.
