Taylor Swift headlining Super Bowl halftime show in Bay Area? It’s not impossible

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WDAF) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell fueled speculation Wednesday about one of the league’s biggest stage moments, hinting that Taylor Swift could be in the mix for the next Super Bowl halftime show, which takes place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

He left the door open to the possibility during an interview with the TODAY Show.

“We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent, and obviously she would be welcome at any time,” Goodell said Wednesday morning.

When asked directly if Swift headlining the halftime show was in the works by host Savannah Guthrie, Goodell said he couldn’t say “anything about it.”

Guthrie pushed a little further by asking: “Is it a maybe?”

“It’s a maybe,” Goodell simply responded.

Fellow host Craig Melvin followed up by asking when an announcement could be expected. Goodell deflected, saying he was waiting for Jay-Z to decide. Jay-Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation, has an ongoing partnership with the NFL to produce the Super Bowl Halftime show.

Rumors that Swift may headline the next halftime show have been circulating for nearly a month, ever since the pop star announced her newest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” during an episode of the “New Heights” podcast.

Swift, well-known for her use of Easter eggs to hint at upcoming announcements, is believed to have dropped many during her “New Heights” appearance, all linking her to the Super Bowl halftime show.

Among those, according to Nexstar’s NewsNation, were Swift’s comments about sourdough, which fans say is clearly a link to Sourdough Sam, the mascot of the San Francisco 49ers, who are hosting Super Bowl LX. Another Easter egg? Four plus nine equals 13, which is Swift’s favorite number.

Don’t believe us? Swift also thanked her future brother-in-law, Jason Kelce, for screaming for “47 seconds” at the start of the episode. The 47th stop on Swift’s “The Eras Tour” was none other than Levi’s Stadium, home of the 49ers and Sourdough Sam. And if you add 13 to 47, you get 60, which, in Roman numerals, is LX.

Super Bowl LX will be played on February 8, 2026 — no apparent Easter egg there — in Santa Clara, California. It will be the second time Levi’s Stadium has hosted the game — the last being Super Bowl 50.
