A 19-year-old homicide victim “didn’t have a chance to do anything” when he was gunned down earlier this summer at a north Minneapolis park, according to a newly unsealed arrest warrant.

Prosecutors charged Seneca Lee Jones, 27, of Brooklyn Park with one count each of second-degree murder and illegally possessing a firearm in connection with the killing of 19-year-old Darnell Hawkins Mapp of St. Paul.

Jones was charged via complaint warrant back in July, and a judge unsealed the case on Friday as authorities continue to search for the defendant.

According to a criminal complaint, police were dispatched to a reported shooting at North Mississippi Regional Park around 3 a.m. on July 20. Mapp was found unresponsive and sitting with his back to a parked car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses told police they were at the park for an “afterparty” and that they were aware of an ongoing feud between Jones and Mapp over stolen property.

At one point, while Mapp’s back was turned, Jones allegedly walked up and shot him several times.

One witness said Jones “just started shooting” and Mapp “didn’t have a chance to do anything.”

Through search warrants of Jones’ home and his cellphone records, police found that Jones had contacted his wife more than 50 times in the hour after the shooting. A cellphone belonging to Jones was also found to be present at North Mississippi Regional Park at the time of the shooting.

Two handguns were recovered from Jones’ home, along with ammo and magazines.

As of Tuesday, Jones had yet to be brought into custody. Charging documents request a warrant for Jones’ arrest to be executed nationwide.
