Early Tuesday morning, just before 3:30 a.m., Minneapolis officers made a traffic stop in the area of Lake Street West and Garfield Avenue to check on a man who looked to be unconscious in the back seat, the department’s public information officer said.
The man was dead, and the officers initially took the three people in the vehicle into custody, but two of the three were later released. The other person was booked into Hennepin County Jail on a warrant.
The circumstances of the man’s death are under investigation, but suspected narcotics use is believed to be a factor, MPD says.
Minneapolis police are also investigating a homicide that happened at a bus stop near Midtown Global Market on Tuesday.
