Kendall County man given 35 years for sexually assaulting step-grandchild
PLANO, Ill. — A Kendall County man will spend nearly thirty years in prison for sexually assaulting his step-grandchild.

Luis Gonzalez, a 54-year-old Plano, Illinois resident, who was found guilty on five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child back in June, has been sentenced to seven years on each of the five counts, Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis announced Wednesday.

An investigation into the sexual assault began back in October of 2019 after the victim disclosed to family members details about the assaults.

Prosecutors said Gonzalez, who was the step-grandfather of the victim, committed the assaults in his Plano home while the victim was staying with him during summer visits.

“No child should ever have to endure this, especially from their own family member,” a spokesperson for Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office said.

Gonzalez’s sentence was handed down by Judge Jody Gleason last week, and each sentence must be served consecutively.

Gonzalez will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence, meaning he will spend at least 30 years in prison before he is eligible for mandatory supervised release.

A second alleged victim, who is also the grandchild of Gonzalez, was among those who testified at the June trial.

Charges have been filed against Gonzalez in connection with the alleged sexual assault of the second victim, but the case has yet to go to trial.

Prosecutors said the second victim’s trial will soon be scheduled, now that the first has ended. If convicted, Gonzalez would be required to serve a sentence of natural life in prison.
