Exotic animals, a stolen gun and drugs found during search of Deer River home
The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office stated that it located a number of illegal things in the possession of two Deer River men, including multiple exotic animals, such as snakes, spiders and venomous animals.
A search of the home on 4th Street Southeast was done on Aug. 27.
Inside, investigators found a stolen Glock 45 handgun, 1.57 grams of methamphetamine, and a number of “dangerous reptiles” and exotic species of animals.
The animals included cobras, a green mamba, a boa constrictor and tarantulas, among other venomous animals.

Two residents inside the home were taken into custody and have charges pending against them.
The animals inside were secured with the help of 4X4 Reptile Rescue.
“The safety of our community is always our top priority,” Sheriff Joe Dasovich said. “Illegal drugs, firearms, and the presence of dangerous reptiles posed a significant public safety concern. Thanks to the diligence of our deputies and partners, these threats were removed from the community without incident.”
