VALE, N.C. (WJZY) — Days after a popular Lincoln County wedding venue burned to the ground, the community is stepping up to help the couples who are now scrambling.

WoodMill Winery in Vale was destroyed Sunday in a fire.

“It was definitely heartbreaking,” said Loree Demers, the co-owner of Hilltop Wedding Venue in Shelby. “We had been there before. We got to know the owners a little bit.”

The winery was also a wedding venue.

Demers saw a post from a bride who was booked at WoodMill on a date this month that Demers recently had a cancellation on.

So Demers reached out.

“She says as long as everything lines up, that she would love to have her wedding here,” Demers said. “It is right around the corner!”

Hilltop’s owners have put the word out that any of their available dates will be free for couples who had already booked with WoodMill.

“You just see someone needing help, that’s really what it is,” Demers said.

Other vendors are stepping up, too, like Bonnie White, who’s offered to do wedding florals for displaced couples at no cost.

“Make that bride maybe not have to stress as much, because she would realize it’s okay because it’s taken care of,” White said. “My heart just went out to everyone.”

No one was hurt in the fire. The cause is still being investigated.
