Coal strike subject of historical society talk

SHENANDOAH – The Great Anthracite Coal Strike of 1902 is the topic of tonight’s talk at the Greater Shenandoah Area Historical Society.

Peter Skirmantas will present on the topic of “How a fatal carriage accident helped end the Great Anthracite Strike of 1902.”

The strike, which is the subject of a historical marker on the east end of town, eventually led to the deployment of the National Guard to Shenandoah and intervention by President Theodore Roosevelt.

The talk is set for 6:30pm at the historical society at Main and Cherry Streets.
