The board voted unanimously to appoint Jeri Bowen as the interim representative for District 8. She was sworn in by Board General Counsel Reginald Abrams. This appointment follows the resignation of former board member Christine Tharpe. Bowen will serve on the school board for the second time. In 2020, she was appointed as an interim board member after a previous member left.
“Education matters,” said Bowen. “It is not only one of the largest parts of our community, it is the most important.” She also noted that she is here to do the right things, not just for District 8 but for all of Caddo Parish.
Bowen is also the Executive Director of the Northwest Louisiana Family Justice Center, where she leads efforts to support victims and strengthen community safety.
Bowen will serve until April 2026. During that time, a special election will be held for qualifying candidates.
