Arrest made in deadly Labor Day weekend shooting on Chicagos Far South Side
Diamond Steward, 31, of Chicago, faces a first-degree murder charge after police allege she shot a woman in the 13200 block of S. Ellis Ave., on Sunday, Aug. 31. Steward and the victim were reportedly in a verbal altercation before shots were fired, according to police.
The victim was struck in the chest and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later died.
Officers arrested Steward a day later on Monday, Sept. 1
Steward is due in court for a detention hearing on Thursday.
All told, nearly 60 people were shot amid 37 incidents across the city of Chicago over Labor Day weekend, according to CPD statistics. Of the 58 people shot, eight were killed.
