50 car thefts in Abilene, police say stop making it easy

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – This summer alone, 50 cars have been stolen and nearly 100 burglaries have been reported in Abilene.

Abilene police say in every stolen car case, the suspect(s) got in easily because the vehicle was left unlocked with keys inside. Items like tools, electronics, documents, and even firearms are also being taken.

Officers warn that some stolen cars are later used to commit other crimes.

Reminder: Always lock your car, take your keys, and never leave valuables, especially firearms, inside overnight.
