Christopher Marx, 55, was killed in the crash and was found dead when first responders arrived on scene. Alex Dulude, 40, was airlifted to the University of Utah hospital following the crash, and he is still in critical condition.
The small plane carrying the two occupants crashed on August 31 at around 5:31 p.m. in the Albion Basin area of Little Cottonwood Canyon, which is located near Alta.
Hikers and others recreating in the area witnessed the crash, and they were the first to respond on scene. Unified Fire Authority and the Alta Marshalls Office responded to the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were called to investigate the crash, and they arrived on scene Monday. They are expected to complete their on-site investigation later today. The NTSB is leading the investigation into determining the cause of the crash.
After the crash, the Albion Campground and nearby area closed, but according to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, once the FAA and NTSB are finished at the scene, the area will reopen to the public.
