Stolen heavy equipment valued at $200K found in Laurel County
According to police, on Aug.13, a D5 K Caterpillar dozer, valued at $65,000, was delivered to a business that was determined to have been stolen from Fairfax, Virginia, with local police tracking the location of the stolen equipment to London.
On Aug. 29, deputies set up an undercover operation to provide two more pieces of heavy equipment.
The suspect and a reported accomplice brought two pieces of heavy equipment, valued at $47,000 and $73,000, to the south Laurel County and Corbin area. Deputies reportedly saw the vehicle driving in the Woodbine area on Highway 26 south of Corbin before deputies made a traffic stop.
Investigators said the equipment was not entered as stolen based on the serial numbers, but authorities contacted the Boyd Caterpillar company of Corbin and determined both pieces had been stolen from Maryland.
According to a news release, 34-year-old Dushon Sheperd, of Southfield, Michigan, and 23-year-old Bria Parks, of Washington, D.C., allegedly brought the two pieces of heavy equipment from Maryland for the sale.
They were both arrested and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property worth $10,000 or more. Sheperd and Parks were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
