Hotlines available for Roseland resident concerns following chemical explosion
On Friday, Aug. 22 at 12:50 p.m. Louisiana State Police reported a chemical release and fire in Roseland resulting in a mandatory evacuation order in the area.
The facility’s building sustained severe damage. In total, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies reported 35 agencies including over 20 fire agencies, eight law enforcement agencies and local, state and national public and private emergency response teams, responded to the scene to assist.
In Sunday’s update, parish officials stated that the fire was estimated to be 98% contained as they continue to monitor the area.
The Environmental Protection Agency has been conducting 24 hour air monitoring a day since the incident happened leaving soot to land in neighborhoods on homes and cars.
