CHICAGO — All lanes are back open, but drivers are still facing significant delays on Tuesday morning after a shooting investigation shut down a portion of the Eisenhower Expressway.

According to Illinois State police, the closure began after troopers were called to investigate a shooting along the eastbound lanes of I-290 near South Independence Boulevard in Garfield Park.

A preliminary investigation later revealed that the driver of a box truck was driving along the road when someone in a passing vehicle reportedly fired shots at him.

Troopers said the driver suffered a graze wound and was treated on the scene.

The incident sparked an investigation along the roadway, leading troopers to shut down a portion of the expressway, later diverting traffic off at Cicero.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 7:10 a.m. when significant backups could be spotted from overhead.

Just past the Cicero exit, three large trucks could be seen blocking all four lanes of I-290, forcing traffic off at the exit. Nearby, troopers could be seen near the box truck.

All lanes of the expressway reopened by 7:45 a.m., though drivers continued to face residual delays.

Authorities say no arrests have been made and an investigation is underway.
