SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — With summer coming to an end soon, now is the time to start planning those trips to the pumpkin patch. There are few experiences like choosing your own pumpkin, carefully taking it home, and carving it.

Before you plan where to pick your prized pumpkin, check out our list of the top-rated pumpkin patches across the Beehive State. Many pumpkin patches open during mid to late September, so read closely to see when your new favorite location will open.

This ranking is based on Google Maps reviews and is sorted from highest to lowest, and the number of reviews that each listing has on Google Maps. Every pumpkin patch had a minimum rating of 4.5 stars and more than 100 reviews.

Cache Valley Straw Maze

The highest-rated pumpkin patch in Utah is the Cache Valley Straw Maze in Richmond. Northern Utah attraction offers a pumpkin patch, a one-acre straw maze, and plenty of fun fall activities for all ages. This year, the pumpkin patch and maze will be opening the weekend of Sept. 12. To visit the pumpkin patch at Cache Valley Straw Maze, no general admission is required. You can go in, pick your pumpkin, and pay. However, you may want to pay to go through the straw maze and enjoy the giant slide, swing ride, play area, and corn cannon they have on site.

Mabey’s Pumpkin Patch

The next top spot, according to Google Maps, was Mabey’s Pumpkin Patch in South Jordan. The farm touts more than 16 acres of pumpkins and was established in 1884. Mabey’s opens later in the season, on Sep. 27, but it’s a top spot for selecting pumpkins and taking fall photos.

Admission to Mabey’s Pumpkin Patch is free, and you pay based on the size and quantity of pumpkins you want to take home. The pumpkin patch has carts to help you load up your future Jack-O-Lanterns, as well as cute photo backdrops covered in pumpkins.

Day Farms

Day Farms grows a variety of produce and sells it for most of the year in Layton. When fall comes around, their fields fill up with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. Generally, pumpkins are available starting during the first week of October.

Alongside selling pumpkins at their stand, Day Farms allows visitors to their drive-in pumpkin patch. Admission includes a pumpkin, but you’re welcome to purchase additional pumpkins if you need some more! Last year, the U-pick pumpkins were closed due to a hailstorm, but the patch should be open again in early October this year, weather permitting.

Gordo’s Fun Farm

Gordon’s Family Farm in Spanish Fork turns into a fun fall attraction during September with a corn maze, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, wagon rides and many other fun activities. This year, the farm, called Gordo’s Fun Farm during the Halloween season, is opening on Sept. 13 and will remain open until Nov. 1, when it will begin preparing for the farm’s winter celebration.

Admission for the festival is $9.95 per person, and children under two are free. Family punch cards are also available for large groups. This year, Gordon’s Family Farm will open a soda shop alongside its seasonal drink and concession stand.

The Pumpkin Patch

If you’re looking for a free way to celebrate fall and pick out some affordable pumpkins, look no further than the Pumpkin Patch in Orem. This location offers free activities such as hayrides, slides, a corn box, meeting farm animals and more. The Pumpkin Patch offers these free options “no strings attached,” but does accept donations to keep the fun running every year.

The Pumpkin Patch was founded in 2010 to help the owners pay for college, according to their website. They say that it funded two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree, all thanks to the support from locals and loyal customers. The owners focus on affordability and family-friendly activities.

Red Acre Farm

Red Acre Farm CSA (community-supported agriculture) in Cedar City is the only Southern Utah location to make the list for its pumpkin patch. During October, pumpkins are available during open hours at the farm. Red Acre Farm CSA even hosts an event called Pumpkins and Donuts, where visitors can enjoy fresh donuts and cider and pick out a pumpkin to take home.

According to their website, Red Acre Farm CSA was founded by a 10-year-old girl, Sara, in 2005, who turned her new home in Cedar City into a large farm with a full crew, plenty of produce and a variety of animals. Admission to the farm is free, a way to give back to the community.

Wheeler Historic Farm

Pumpkin Days at Wheeler Historic Farm in Murray will begin on Sept. 26 this year. The farm will be open daily through Halloween and offers plenty of fun activities alongside their pumpkins. Visitors can look forward to a maze, a kids’ play area, and a wagon or cow train ride.

Tickets are $12 per person, and children under two can enter for free. Pets on a leash are welcome at the pumpkin patch, which is located near the north parking lot. If you find the pumpkin you want to take home, Wheeler Historic Farm says that they range in price from $3 – $20.

Cross E Ranch

Cross E Ranch in Salt Lake City offers a fall festival as well as free admission to their pumpkin patch. The Fall Festival runs between Sept. 19 and Nov. 1 this year, and offers single-day tickets or season passes. Visitors to the Fall Festival can look forward to a corn maze, pig racing, hay rides, a barrel train, pony rides and more.

For those looking only to pick out a pumpkin, Cross E Ranch offers free admission to Grandpa’s Pumpkin Patch, where pumpkins are priced by the pound. The patch opens to those not attending the Fall Festival on Oct. 1.

Jaker’s Jack-O-Lanterns

Jaker’s Jack-O-Lanterns at Harward Farms in Springville will be opening up on Sept. 27 this year. Alongside the variety of pumpkins available, Jaker’s also offers hay rides, a corn maze, a haunted cave, a petting zoo and more.

This seasonal event runs all the way until Halloween, and will generally be open between 9 a.m. to dark. If you’re looking for an experience for a large group, Jaker’s offers pavilion reservations and reservations with discounts for school groups.

Little Bear Bottoms Farm

Little Bear Bottoms Farm, located just off of US-89 in Cache County, is another great place to pick pumpkins if you’re in Northern Utah. This year, the corn maze and pumpkin patch at Little Bear Bottoms opens on Sept. 19. The farm’s Spooky Barn Ride and Haunted River Trail open the following week, on Sept. 26.

If you want to pick out a pumpkin, Little Bear Bottoms has everything you need. You can borrow a wagon and clippers and pull your very own pumpkin from the vine. Their Halloween activities are also a great way to support the local farm while getting a seasonal scare. They even offer a “not-so-scary” version of their Haunted River Trail experience.
