THC Vape Ban Hits Texas

Waco, TX (FOX 44) – Senate Bill 2024 officially went into effect on Monday. The bill blocks the sale and advertisement of all hemp-derived vape products, including THC, CBD, and Delta-8.

Dispensaries around the state are now having to adjust to the changes to their stock, and to their business as a whole.

“We have a lot, a lot of people who love their vape. So, we’re going to find new ways to help our customers consume the way that they want to consume. If they like to consume with oils and concentrates and stuff, we’re going to find a way to get them oils and concentrates to their liking, legally, and in the right way,” says Michael Busby, an employee at The Gass Shack dispensary in Waco.

A driving force behind getting the bill passed was to protect minors from THC products. To purchase THC products in Texas, you must have a legal driver’s license and be over 21 years old.

“If a minor is getting something from anywhere, nine times out of ten that’s coming from the streets. You can’t be under 21 coming in here. Before you come in you have to show your ID at the door,” says Busby.

Busby says that thankfully the supplier for The Gass Shack is allowing them to exchange their now illegal product for legal options. Not all suppliers are as generous, and some dispensaries may now find themselves in a situation where a large amount of their stock is now unsellable.

For now, Senate Bill 2025 is the biggest problem facing dispensaries in the state, but a much larger threat is potentially on the way. Senate Bill 5 looks to completely ban the sell of hemp products in Texas.
