Red in the Rock Preview: A look at the inaugural meeting between Arkansas and Arkansas State

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – With college football season now in full swing for both the Arkansas Razorbacks and Arkansas State Red Wolves, it’s officially time to look ahead to their historic inaugural meeting this weekend at War Memorial Stadium.

Though the game is happening on Saturday, fans around the state will be painting the capital city red all week with tailgate parties, fan fests and a concert featuring Waka Flocka Flame.

Arkansas Razorbacks

During the 2024 season, the Hogs under coach Sam Pittman went 7-6 with a victory over Texas Tech in the Liberty Bowl with quarterback Taylen Green leading the way under center. In Green’s 2025 season debut against the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, he threw for 322 yards and six touchdowns, completing 24 of 31 passes.

Green’s main target in Saturday night’s 52-7 victory was senior receiver O’Mega Blake who tallied seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. In total, six different Razorbacks caught a total of seven touchdowns with CJ Brown grabbing two in four of his catches.

Arkansas State Red Wolves

The Red Wolves ended last season with an 8-5 record and a victory in the 68 Ventures Bowl under coach Butch Jones. The win marked their second bowl game appearance during Jones’s tenure and first bowl victory since 2019.

In their 42-24 win over the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, quarterback Jaylen Raynor completed 26 of 32 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns. A-State running back Ja’Quez Cross carried the ball for 36 yards and a score as well as five catches and a touchdown through the air.
