There are a few details released on the incident. Police said 37-year-old officer Edward Ray Pagett was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries for a domestic incident that happened at his personal residence.
It’s unclear who the other person was in the incident or the extent of their injuries.
As is protocol, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.
“Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and to maintain the integrity of the process, no further details will be released at this time,” the police department said.
Officer Padgett was taken to Cleveland County for questioning, but has since been booked into the Lincoln County Detention Center without bond.
The city of Kings Mountain and its police department are fully cooperating with the SBI on the investigation.
