‘High-motor’ Seaman football team looking for more success in 2025

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A conference title is nice, but not enough for the Vikings.

Seaman High football won its first United Kansas Conference championship last season, but now there’s more work to be done.

“It’s going to take a lot of hard work to accomplish our goals. That starts with the kids in our program and the standard we have now set,” head coach Jared Swafford told 27 Sports. “They know they have to come to work, and if they can grind through fall camp, then we’ll be able to compete at our best on Friday nights.”

Seaman finished 8-3 (6-1 conference) in 2024, with a 5A Sectionals loss to Eisenhower.

The Vikings lost key offensive starters like quarterback Max Huston and wide receiver Bryer Finley, but still have talent across the field.

“We just want to be efficient and do everything right the first time and build off that,” senior running back/receiver Kaden McKinney said. “We have a high-motor team and a lot of difference makers that I feel like are going to be great for us.”

McKinney did it all for the Vikings in 2024, rushing for over 970 yards and 132 touchdowns while hauling in 29 catches for three more scores.

On the other side of the football, senior linebacker Cameron Brian looks to lead his unit to another successful season.

The Vikings’ defense allowed 21 points per game a season ago, and Brian was at the forefront.

He was an All-State linebacker, racking up over 110 tackles on the year.

“Everybody is willing to step up on this year’s squad and take ownership on the defensive side,” Brian told 27 Sports. “We’re going to stop the ball consistently, that’s what we’re focused on here. We’re ready to take on anyone.”

Seaman will open the season Friday night against Piper at home. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
