ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — State Sen. Steve Stadelman (D) hosted the annual “‘HoopStars” basketball tournament today in Rockford, in partnership with the Rockford Park District, providing a free event for local youth.

The “HoopStars” tournament offers fifth through eighth-grade boys and girls an opportunity to come together and celebrate Labor Day as a community.

“These types of tournaments can be very expensive if you go other places and so we’re just offering it for free, a nice facility thanks to Rockford Park District, so … a place to have good competition to have fun and play basketball, which I love to do as well,” Stadelman said.

This year marks the 11th year that Senator Stadelman has hosted the “HoopStars” tournament in Rockford.
