Austin R. Jones of Portland was lodged at Clackamas County Jail on first-degree manslaughter and reckless driving after the crash on Sunday, and could face additional charges, according to Milwaukie police.
Milwaukie police say they responded to the Sunday crash at Southeast McLoughlin Blvd and Southeast Milport Street at 10:22 p.m., where they found a 2011 Infiniti and a 2013 Chrysler that had crashed in the road.
Jones, who police say had been driving the Chrysler, and his passenger were taken to a local hospital, with the passenger still in critical condition. The driver and the passenger of the Infiniti were also taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
As the crash reconstruction team and Milwaukie officers were at the scene investigating the crash, they learned that the passenger of the Infiniti had died, police say. The passenger’s name has not been released at this time pending family notifications.
Authorities say their initial investigation shows Jones’ Chrysler hit the Infiniti after driving through a red light, and they believe intoxicants and speed are believed to be factors in the crash.
Anyone else with information is asked to contact the Milwaukie police.
The investigation is ongoing.
