Super Derby returns to Louisiana Downs; family fun, races, and contests
Festivities kick off this week with the post-position draw and continue with Louisiana Cup Day, featuring six stakes races showcasing Louisiana-bred horses. Fans can also look forward to the popular Wiener Dog Races on Monday, September 1, before the main event takes place on Saturday, September 6.
This year also features the fan-favorite hat contest, where attendees are encouraged to go big and bold with their race-day looks. KTAL’s Mata Drain will join as a celebrity judge for the contest, adding extra fun to the festivities.
Admission to the Super Derby is free, making it a family-friendly event. Food trucks, drinks, and entertainment will be available throughout the day. The first race begins at 3:35 p.m. on Saturday, with activities starting around 1 p.m.
