SOMERSET, Ky. (FOX 56) — Crews with the Somerset Fire Department (SFD) used rakes, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and more to battle a rampant brush fire on Sunday.

The department announced on Facebook that on Aug. 31, crews had been sent to the 1300 block of Jones Knob Road to help the Ferguson Volunteer Fire Department with the out-of-control fire.

Officials said the Bronston, Burnside, and Haynes Knob departments also joined to help stop the rapidly spreading flames along with the Kentucky Division of Forestry.

“On scene, crews worked to get the fire under control by using rakes, flappers, chainsaws, and leaf blowers to make fire breaks, using water from tankers and brush trucks to extinguish flames and hotspots,” the SFD wrote.

The brush fire was one of many factors over the weekend that led to Pulaski County Emergency Management declaring a county-wide burn ban on Sunday.
