Around 9:15 p.m., on-duty Merced County Sheriff’s deputies heard shots ring out outside the Livingston High School football stadium.
In response, officers with the Livingston Police Department were dispatched to the area of Main and Park Streets to investigate.
Upon their arrival, they say they found two men who had been struck by gunfire. Both were transported to area trauma centers for treatment.
Police said one of the men has since been released from the hospital, while the other continues to receive medical care for his injuries.
According to officers, the shooting was a result of an altercation that began inside the football stadium and continued on near Memorial Park.
Investigators said the suspects are described as young Hispanic males who fled westbound from Main Street, towards I Street, on foot.
They stress that no students were injured in the course of the incident.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to contact the Livingstone Police Department’s non-emergency line at 209-394-7916.
