NEW IBERIA, La. (
KLFY) — A 19-year-old has lost their life in a fatal crash that occurred in Iberia Parish.
According to authorities, on Aug. 26, around 8 p.m., Louisiana State Police began investigating a two-vehicle, serious injury crash on U.S. 90 westbound near the off-ramp onto La. 675.
Officials said the crash ultimately claimed the life of Colbi Blanchard, 19, of Thibodaux.
The investigation revealed that a 2014 Ford Fusion was traveling west on U.S. 90 and at the same time, a 2019 International Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) was stopped in the painted gore area between U.S. 90 west and the off-ramp onto La. 675.
For reasons still under investigation, the Ford exited the westbound travel lane and entered the painted gore area, striking the rear of the CMV according to officials.
Officials said both the driver and Blanchard, who was in the front passenger seat of the Ford, were properly restrained and sustained serious injuries. The driver of the CMV was also properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. All three individuals were sent to a local hospital for treatment.
On Saturday. Louisiana State Police was notified that Blanchard succumbed to his injuries.
Although impairment is not suspected, driver fatigue is believed to be a factor in this crash. A routine toxicology sample was obtained from both drivers and submitted for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
