Wanted man with Louisiana ties captured in Denver

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Denver man who was wanted by the FBI was captured in Colorado.

Matthew Johnson, 55, was captured in northern Colorado after an anonymous tip Friday night. Authorities alerted Louisiana on Wednesday that Johnson has ties to the state.

On Dec. 30, 2023, Denver Police officers were called to the 4800 block of West Colfax Avenue about a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found four people with gunshot wounds. Brandon Houston, 41, and Jason Lewis, 38, died from their injuries. The two other victims were injured but survived.

“This defendant will now have his day in court and the judicial process can begin. We hope these efforts bring a measure of justice and relief to the families of his victims,” said FBI Denver Special Agent in Charge Mark Michalek.
