Ala. –
After dominating Fultondale on the road last week, Fairview was on the field for its home opener against Springville at Dafford Smith Stadium Friday night. The score was knotted at 14 late in the first quarter but the Aggies scored 19 unanswered points before halftime to take a 33-14 lead into the locker room at the break. Fairview held the Tigers at bay in the second half to secure a 40-23 win.

A 51-yard touchdown pass put Springville ahead 7-0 early in the first quarter but it didn’t take Fairview long to respond. After a big run from Jake Harper got the Aggies down to the 5-yard line, Kolt Redding connected with Jace Stevens for a 3-yard touchdown on fourth and goal to tie things up at 7. Fairview took its first lead of the night on its next possession when Rex Chandler punched one into the end zone from 9 yards out to make it 14-7.

The Tigers came back with another scoring drive to tie the game at 14 late in the first quarter but it was all Aggies for the rest of the first half. After Avery Latham recovered a Springville fumble, Harper ran one into the end zone from 7 yards out to put Fairview in front 20-14. The Aggies then recovered a short kickoff to steal another possession, and they took advantage of it a few plays later when Redding dove into the end zone from a yard out to make it a 26-14 game with four minutes to play in the second quarter. Fairview found the end zone one more time before the end of the first half, scoring on a 6-yard run from Harper with 15 seconds on the clock to take a commanding, 33-14 lead into the locker room at the break.

Chandler’s second rushing touchdown of the night put the Aggies ahead 40-14 with around four minutes remaining in the third quarter. A safety and a late touchdown allowed Springville to trim the lead to 17 but they couldn’t chip away any more than that and Fairview went on to win it 40-23.

Harper led the way for the Aggies on the ground with 198 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
