When police arrived, they determined it was a very serious crash and requested the Madison County Sheriff’s Department Crash Investigation Team to respond.

Evidence suggests that the vehicle was heading northbound on SR 9 when it left the roadway and entered the grass median, then it crossed back over to the northbound lanes before exiting the road on the east side.

The vehicle then rolled and came to rest on its roof. The driver was trapped inside and needed to be extracted by firefighters.

The driver was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis in critical condition.
