It was another Fall-like start to the day Wednesday with several outlying areas bottoming out in the middle to upper 40s, a level more typical of the first week in October.
Temperatures rebounded a bit by afternoon, with Hebron, Indiana, taking honors for the area’s hot spot, reaching 82 degrees, while the official sites peaked in the middle to upper 70s, the warmest day since last Saturday.
Wednesday’s readings were in stark contrast to the intense heat that gripped the area on this date a year ago when the mercury fell one degree short of the triple digit mark.

Wednesday U.S. Highs
The lack of heat continues to shrink across the country. Only 76 million residents were at or above 90-degrees Wednesday, down significantly from Tuesday. Much of the U.S. enjoyed comfortable late summer temperatures.
Wednesday Departure from Normal
Much of the Lower 48 was below normal with the most significant temperature deficit across portions of Kansas and Oklahoma.
