UNC-Chapel Hill unveils memorial for professor shot by student

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Thursday, Aug. 28, marks two years since an associate professor was shot and killed on UNC-Chapel Hill’s campus.

Authorities say Zijie Yan was killed by one of his graduate students at a science lab on campus.

The suspected shooter was charged with murder, but was deemed not mentally fit to stand trial after multiple psychiatric evaluations determined he has severe mental illness.
